The Internal Temporary Traveler Nurse Staffing Program participant must adhere to the agreed upon scheduling parameters of the program. These are 90 day assignment increments. Reporting to the unit’s Nurse Manager, the Registered Nurse works collaboratively with members of the Care Team to ensure that patients receive exceptional, high quality, patient-centered nursing care that meets their individual needs.

Cath Lab / EP Lab Department Description
The Invasive Cardiology Department at Mount Auburn Hospital is comprised of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab (Cath Lab) and the Electrophysiology Lab (EP Lab). The department offers comprehensive diagnostic and interventional procedures to our patients. The clinical staff is comprised of a mixture of registered nurses, cardiovascular technologists, and radiologic technologists. The department is comprised of two Cath Labs, one EP Lab, and a six bed holding room for pre- and post-procedure care. Additionally, Cath/EP Lab staff work collaboratively with the cardiac surgery team in the hybrid CVOR to care for patients undergoing TAVR procedure.
General Expectations
Provides competent compassionate nursing care based on scientific principles and the use of the nursing process
Provides direct nursing care for patients undergoing invasive and non-invasive procedures in the Department(s)
Provides direct nursing care for patients undergoing procedures in the Cath Lab, Cath Lab Holding Area, Electrophysiology Lab, and CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room)
Evaluates patient prior to procedure; monitors vital signs, assesses patient, and documents accordingly during procedure; recognizes changes in patient status and reports to physician; initiates nursing interventions according under the direction of the attending physician.
Maintains competency in the administration and monitoring of conscious sedation under the direction of the Cardiologist, Hospital policy, and State regulations without error.
Maintains competency in radiation safety principles
Maintains competency in all diagnostic and interventional cardiology procedures performed at Mount Auburn Hospital
Maintains competency in specialized Interventional Cardiology equipment, intravenous (IV) infusion pumps, bedside cardiac monitors, oxygen administration/airway equipment as needed for patient care
Collaborates with cardiologists regarding individualized patient assessments and plan of care
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Maintains competency in use of the electronic medical record
Collaborates with various departments to ensure continuity of care: Emergency Department, SICU/MICU, CVOR, Perfusion, Echo Lab, Anesthesia, PACU, etc.
Performs all other duties as assigned
Cath Lab Holding Area Duties
Provides nursing care to patients both pre- and post-procedure for Cath Lab and EP Lab
Provides nursing care to patients during cardioversions and TEE/cardioversions
Provides nursing care to electrophysiology patients during tilt table test
Cath Lab Duties
Performs advanced nursing duties as needed for the care of Cath Lab patients
Maintains competency in all diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures done at Mount Auburn Hospital.
Maintains competency in hemodynamic interpretation
Will be required to maintain competency in all various procedure room roles as needed for the department (sedation, circulating, scrubbing, and monitoring)
Available to be on-call on a rotating basis as assigned by the department needs. On-call response time is 30 minutes or less.
Maintains competency in resuscitation teamwork
Maintains competency in the care of mechanical circulatory support patients (IABP, Impella, and ECMO)
EP (Electrophysiology) Lab Duties
Performs advanced nursing duties as needed for the care of EP Lab patients
Maintains competency in all diagnostic and interventional EP procedures done at Mount Auburn Hospital.
Maintains competency in cardiac pacing, defibrillation, mapping, and ablating for EP procedures
Maintains competency in various procedure room roles as needed for the department (circulating nurse, sedation nurse, and scrub nurse)
Applies principles for maintaining electrically safe environment for the patient and the healthcare team
Differentiates the origin and route of conduction of tachycardia-related and bradycardia-related arrhythmias based on interpretation of intracardiac and surface leads
Maintains competency in the set-up and operation of the ablation generator system
CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) Duties
Performs advanced nursing duties as needed for the care of structural heart patients (TAVR, TMVR, PFO, and LAAC) in the CVOR
Will cross-train to various roles in structural heart cases: monitor, circulator, and/or scrub as assigned
Collaborates with CVOR and Perfusion staff for continuity of care requirements
Graduate of accredited school of nursing required
Currently licensed Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required
Current BLS required
Current ACLS required
Available for flexible dayshifts per department needs between the hours of 0630 and 1730 (mix of 8, 9, or 10-hour shifts are utilized within the department)
Available for on-call shifts
On-call requirement: 1-2 nights/week in addition to every 4th weekend for all full-time and part-time staff or per departmental needs
Holidays per rotation
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment required
2-3 years of Critical Care experience preferred
Cardiac ICU experience preferred (CCU or CTICU/CVICU)
Cath Lab, EP Lab, or Interventional Radiology experience preferred
Moderate sedation experience preferred
Specialty certification preferred (RCIS, RCES, CCRN, CVRN, CEN, and/or CRN)
IABP, Impella, and/or ECMO experience preferred
