Will have in depth knowledge of cardiac rhythm management, cardiac devices, and cardiovascular physiology. Provides in-clinic testing and evaluation of data for Cardiac patients with implantable devices, utilizing clinical and software application knowledge. Technical duties include pacemaker and cardiac defibrillator in-clinic testing for proper thresholds, sensing and impedance on each specific lead. Able to interpret the data and ensure proper programming. Clinical judgment of when to perform basic reprogramming of the device based on the analysis, done within the scope of the guidelines and under supervision of the Arrhythmia Service Providers. Monitors alerts daily, provides ongoing monitoring and follow up with population, ensuring appropriate follow up is offered and provided for patients. Interpretation of remote data to recognize alert conditions, and possess judgment to direct to the Arrhythmia Service Providers. Management and analysis of data in the electronic database, maintaining the data integrity with the system. Compiles patient history and prepares patients for procedures, and provides patient education. Strong judgment of clinical skills for intervention within scope of guidelines and recognizing Arrhythmia Service Team for greater support of the patient, ensuring safe and efficient testing practices including scheduling and reporting.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  1. Plays an integral part in overseeing appropriate pacemaker/ICD patient follow up based on the establish guidelines to ensure safe and efficient care.

  2. Interprets data and intervenes for reprogramming of device within the scope of clinical guidelines and under limited supervision of the Arrhythmia Service Providers.

  3. Collects diagnostic testing data, recognizes abnormal results and presents data to licensed provider for final analysis.

  4. Performs and is proficient in pacemaker/ ICD intra-cardiac interpretation on various manufacturers’ equipment. Inclusive of St. Jude, Medtronic, Boston Scientific and Biotronik.

  5. Evaluates pacemaker and defibrillator function by performing threshold testing and knowledge of safety margins.

  6. Evaluates pacemaker and defibrillator function by performing sensing tests and knowledge of safety margins.

  7. Evaluates pacemaker and defibrillator function by performing impedance testing and knowledge of safety margins.

  8. Recognizes the importance of establishing underlying rhythm prior to device testing.

  9. Demonstrates the knowledge of telemetry/intra-cardiac electrograms.

  10. Assists provider with implanting telemetry devices. Gathers and prepares equipment. Prepares room. Assists in education and follow through of Implanted Loop Recorder patients and Same Day Discharge patients.

  11. Possesses basic knowledge of the cardiovascular system.

  12. Knowledge of cardiovascular drugs and their effects on the cardiovascular system

  13. Recognizes patient symptoms and physiological signs of inappropriate device function or potential malfunction.

  14. Possesses basic 12 lead interpretation skills

  15. Performs 12 Lead ECG/EKG and Rhythm strips

  16. Knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias and the ability to recognize serious and life threatening arrhythmias.

  17. Manages four web based patient care networks for daily analysis of scheduled and Alert data. Sites: Merlin, CareLink, Latitude, Biotronik Home.

  18. Manages the PaceArt system to ensure appropriate patient follow up is scheduled and technical oversight of the system

  19. Monitors and supports home telemetry systems for cardiac patients with implantable devices. Each day reviews alerts, and, using clinical knowledge assesses risk, determines proper follow-up (judgment whether to notify provider) based on established criteria.

  20. Manages log of patients. Maintains and updates data on assigned cardiac population, capturing data into software application and ensuring that follow up is current for each patient.

  21. Identifies patients needing follow up visits, follows up with patients, schedules appropriate appointments, utilizing multiple software applications (for example manufacturer’s application, IDX and PaceArt), minimizing risk and ensuring that Lahey and technology provide safe care.

  22. Interacts with patients to educate them about their implantable home monitoring device. Provides ongoing support for implantable devices, serving as resource for patient questions, troubleshoots problems.

  23. Possess knowledge to educate patient to home based monitoring, Patient education in clinic and troubleshoot technical issues with the patient over the phone. Technical oversight of these systems.

  24. Performs duties of Holter Analyst, CVT I and CVT II as assigned. Maintains competencies for these positions. Provides technical oversight of these positions as assigned.

  25. Possesses excellent judgment skills and recognizes when direct provider supervision is necessary

  26. Applies a thorough knowledge of quality improvement initiatives with-in the department and organization.

  27. Participates in quality improvement initiatives as directed by management and assists in data collection.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associate degree Liberal Arts/Science

Licensure, Certification & Registration:

  • Maintains basic life support (AHA) ACLS

Experience:

  • 3 years experience in a fast paced hospital and clinic-based Cardiology service.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Basic ECG interpretation and rhythm analysis.

  • Organized self-directed individual with strong written and verbal communication skills. Customer service focused.

  • Knowledge of cardiovascular medical terminology. Utilizes critical thinking and good judgment in performing of clinical tasks.

  • Must possess strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities.

  • Possess strong ECG Interpretation skills including abnormal rhythm and pacer interpretation.

  • Possess strong computer skills.
